Concept of deceptive

What is the concept of deceptive shot?
For us, concept of deceptive shot is to make our opponent move before we hit the shuttle. Not to wait for our opponent to move first.
There is two way of deceptive,
1. Front and back
2. left and right
This two is using a totally different way but can combine it as long as you know the way.

rear court deceptive shot

The movement of the girl on the left is better.
Did not notice the angle of the video shot. So can't take her shot.
drop is very close to the net, right leg need to pass the line to take the lifting.
Without a proper understanding of this deceptive shot, mistake is unavoidable. Must understand the concept and theory.
No national player played this kind of shot.
Seem so easy, but in the real game is very useful.

overhead hitting

In basic swing, the purpose of arm moving up from behind will cause our forearm open up from back. So allowed us to hit the shuttle fall on the top of our head or fall back of our head.
This is very important because we do not need to run behind the shuttle to get enough strength to hit the shuttle.
At today coaching session, the reason most people can get enough strength to hit the shuttle when the shuttle fall over their head because arm move forward first and elbow bend forward before hitting the shuttle.
If the basic is correct and still not get the power to do clearing. This is a way that some of my student get to understand it. In the basic swing, i just as my student use all his strength to push his hand up, hand made a sudden stop at the hitting point and hand must be straight.

LCW match 4 part 2

how to use strength

Once, when i was warming with my friend which is around my age. He was trained by another coach when small. Then we was played clearing. I can see he use a lot of energy to swing but i only use around 50 to 60 percent of my energy is quite relaxing.
Then he came to ask me why his power lost to me even his forearm is bigger than me.
Back to the point, basic which i mention last time is most important for fully utilize our strength. But i did not mention how to use the strength of our wrist.

I feel many people think bending their wrist a lot before hit the shuttle will use the strength of the wrist, this is definitely wrong. Using the power on the wrist is by the concept on how to strike and let it bend behind automatically.
"When we are sitting the a car, the driver suddenly step on the gas paddle, our body force to go backward a little bit, this is the theory we all know".
So, do not hold the racket hard which just use little energy only enough to make the hand and wrist steady. So when the last moment to strike, palm will open a little bit and wrist will bend backward a little bit. This movement is very short and you can not feel it was there. And then hold the racket hard and use the wrist to push over at the same time.

Basic swing

Basic swing is very important because we cannot let our opponent able to judge what shot we hit. So clearing, smashing, droping, chop net, cutting. with the same basic swing.

shoulder and hand - flat, chest and hand - flat, elbow - v shape, hand near our ear, racket and hand - as straight as possible. when we want to hit the shuttle, able to see 1, opponent, 2, shuttle, 3 racket.

when the time to hit, hand push up from behind and chest open wide a little bit at the same time, and then use strength of the forearm and wrist to hit the shuttle. final thing is body has to be loose and steady, don't move too much.

most mistake i see,

1. wrist bend backward or to the side before hit,

2. hand push forward up causing the wrist bend backward, and when the shuttle over head, will not enough energy to hit.

In badminton, the most important thing is basic which many of the coach do not understand
what is basic. Basic is include footwork and handwork. With the correct handwork, accuracy will
increase and less mistake to be done. And with the correct footwork, movement will get smooth and faster.
How to define which is the correct basic?
So far, i din't see there is any standard basic in badminton, as long as the student can hit the shuttlecock is ok.
For anyone who has the problem in making lots of mistake, can send me a link on their video clip and i will try my best to give advise how to improve their skill in badminton.

Badminton Lessons @ Jan 2010

Background Story of Mr. Teh Peng Huat

I started playing badminton when I was 16 years old. Back then, there were no badminton coach and neither there is a decent badminton court for me to practice in. I didn’t gave up and started to do my own research and studies on the game of badminton back then.

In 1956, I started my first badminton coaching and this was successful as I never stop coaching for 20 years since then. However, I had to put a halt on my coaching career due to family financial problems and because of this I had to work at the rubber plantation to support my family.

After almost 13 years, I went back to my coaching career again and at that time, the startup of my coaching was difficult. Students come and go but I was determined and continued to coach even the amount of students became lesser than before.

Years passed, I still kept on teaching with the experience and knowledge that I’ve gained. Until today, the number of student exceeds thousands and many among them had become very successful.

My profession as a badminton coach has also proven with flying results. My coaching career was recognized and I received the best coach award in 2004. With a strong determination and the knowledge that I had, I truly believed that my coaching will help the students will become a very successful badminton player in the future.
